I’m learning about all of these social media tools that I had no idea existed before I started studying corporate communications and public relations.

What the heck is Twitter? I considered myself to be fairly well versed spending (embarrassingly) countless hours originally on MySpace and then to Facebook when they opened it up to McMaster University students in 2005. Little did I know that there is a lot more to the social media world than just those sites. I think I first heard about Twitter when Maggie Fox came to talk to our class about social media mentioning it in passing and telling us that we have to get on it. I recently signed up http://twitter.com/sarahroger and think it’s a neat idea, but only have two friends on it and one does not update his. I do vaguely remember reading an article about when Facebook added its status update bar as it was a direct rip-off of Twitter, but that made no impact with me because I was not familiar with it. It’s a neat site but I need to find more friends on it. It’s intriguing how these sites are meaningless if you have no “friends” on them, virtual or real.
